Inmate messaging apps are the best method to stay in touch with a friend or relative who is currently imprisoned. These apps are made to be compliant with prison regulations and allow family members and friends to send and receive messages images, photos, eCards video calls, and money into their prison trust account. In addition to these messaging apps, there are also a number of federal inmate apps that offer additional services, such as video visits and phone calls.
The JPay app, for example, enables family and friends to send money into the trust account of an inmate as well as pictures, emails, eCards, and video grams. It also lets them make personalized postcards featuring personal photos. It is a safer, more secure alternative to regular mail.
Another popular texting app for prisoners is GettingOut. It allows "simple reliable, safe communication" between inmates and their loved family members. The app, available in certain correctional facilities, allows inmates to upload images and text their family members and friends using their tablets. Inmates pay $0.25 per message, and their loved ones pay data costs to access them (but not explicit pictures). The GettingOut app allows users to upload photos to Facebook or Foursquare, check-in to Foursquare and add an YouTube inmate message service video.
